Debate 101: How Its Done & How To Get Better

With all the people that claim to be these so called great debaters. The amount of people that do not understand rhetorical process, debate, ect is overwhelming.

Fact = Something that can be shown to be true, to exist, or to have happened.
The truth or actual existence of something, as opposed to the supposition of something or a belief about something

Opinion = a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.

Artistic Proofs = Appeals to the Audience

1) Ethos - Appeal to the integrity and expertise of the writer
2) Logos - An appeal to appropriate and logical arguments
3) Pathos - An appeal to the audiences sympathies

Four Propositions Debate Principals

1) Proposition of Fact = is a statement to be proven true or false as the evidence is gathered. A proposition of fact is not a fact. Facts are truths proved only through such means as experiment, testing, measurement, or scientific observation.

2) Proposition of Value = Value Judgement

3) Proposition of Explanation = attempts to determine whether a cause and effect relationship exists between two actions or events

4) Proposition of Policy = evaluates potential courses of action. It answers the question, "should we change?

Absolutes = The concept of an unconditional reality

Why people use words that are "Absolutes" like Never, Always, Need, Must, & Nobody, Everybody, All ect is beyond me. These are the easiest things to prove wrong as all it takes is one minor exception.

Proof of Claim = Facts, evidence and/or information supported and backed by credible sources that support and validate your point.

Proof of Claim, seriously is it that hard for people to provide this?

Hopefully at least one person finds education in what was spoken in this video.

To the people saying this video is boring and unnecessary. I found this video interesting, and somewhat informative. I am in College too so I have heard this kind of stuff a lot. A suggestion, instead of calling the video boring, why not soak the info in because this may be an opinion but I think most people in the youtube gaming community lack this information.

What is with this BS from SONY fanboys about the XBOX 360 gimping games this generation the 360 has a better GPU and a more usable CPU for game development then the PS3 the PS3 can only be taped fully by a small number of dedicated developers making games with the PS3 as the focus like SE with FFXIII and FFVersusXIII, TECHMO with NGS2 and Kojima with MGS4 and the first party developers the only difference is the optical media and they are using multiple DVD9 discs for that .

hmm i dont remember multiplats being held down to the limitations of another console last gen im pretty sure a good majority of multiplats last gen looked better on the 360 because it was hardware wise the better console as apposed to this generation do you understand now?

Well I just looked over what I said, and it's logical fallacy. None of this can be proven so basically the console wars are a bunch of people trying to prove their opinions using facts. But me personally I think Uncharted 2 is the best game this generation. But ever? I don't know about that.

Well one could prove what is the best video game by showing weighted averages of scores by credible sources in the industry ( Metacritic). Or you could do this by just using regular averages of scores by the most credible in the industry. (Gamerankings). or VGchartz.
