Robert Pape "Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism" controverts many widely held beliefs about suicide terrorism. Based on an analysis of every known case of suicide terrorism from 1980 to 2005 (315 attacks as part of 18 campaigns), he concludes that there is "little connection between suicide terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism, or any one of the worlds religions... . Rather, what nearly all suicide terrorist attacks have in common is a specific secular and strategic goal: to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from territory that the terrorists consider to be their homeland

This guy misses the boat on Islamic terrorism. For example, he says that islamic terrorism is secular and cause by western democracies being in muslims lands.

What he omits to say is that when muslims start immigrating in numbers to a area, their religion teaches them its muslim land, and then terrorism starts to force an islamic state. At that point, military usually gets involved.

And he has looked at 400 cases, over 20 years, while there have been THOUSANDS in the last 10. Selection bias?

I think it's not fair bringing out the islam as being the source of all evil .He said "When I collected the database of the suicide attackers from 1980 to early 2004 I ended up studying 462 suicide terrorists who actually killed themselves and the first thing that jumped out to me is that over half of them are seculars"

I am not sure I quite understand what the vid has got to do with the interview!!!!

This man is not condemning a certain religion .He is just enumerating the causes of misunderstaing and misinterpretaion of religion leading to suicide bombing as well as other causes.
