This film was made in the memory of Round Oak steel works and the men who worked there. The steel works has now gone and sadly some of the men who worked there have since died but the memory lives on. Regards to All Mike Burke

  • @nomesp80 Hi thanks for your comment i dont remember Harry Powell but maybe

someone else can help you. Regards Mike

  • Excellent slideshow Mike. I was employed at Level Street from 1969 until 1981, at which time I emigrated to the USA seeking asylum from the Thatcher regime.

Many, many good memories of the "Ode Level". Sadly, the once vibrant Brierley Hill is almost gone, and a few of the characters I had the pleasure of spending a little time with. Would love to hear from anyone that remembers me. That includes you Geoff Gregory. Email; ingerland@charter.net

  • @wordsley58 Hi Dave thank you for your comment. I worked down the level around 1975 as a contractor with

the maintanance department so i must have knew you. Best Regards Mike

  • What a great slideshow of an iconic British Company, thank you for sharing.

Being born and bred in Dudley I also knew folk who worked at the Round Oak.

It was a shock and sad to read above of the passing of Mick Davies, when did he die?

If you want to share any photographs or memories of the Round Oak, take a look at a photographic site "Flickr - Round Oak Steelworks".

    Thanks again for sharing.

  • @DudleyBloke1 Hi Thank you very much for your kind comments.I took a look at the photos on flicker

very interesting. I was also born in Dudley and lived on the Wrens nest estate beforei got married. I worked with Mick Davies at Round Oak in the seventies, i didnt know

that he had died until someone told me on one of the comments. I dont know when

    it was.

Perhaps someone out there can let us know.

  • Hi Sorry i dont know.I knew a lot of people that worked at round oak but

unfortunately ididnt know all their names.Maybe somebody else can

    tell us.

  • Great video Mike. I started there in 82 on the inspection, moved to the labs in 83 with Mike Smith, Don and Cyril (can't remember their last names). I was still in the labs when they pulled the shops down. We watch the whole place raised to the ground before the ground works started for the dreadfull merry hill. Sad times mate, ....LONG LIVE THE ROUND OAK !!!
