Insead of reading some books of nazis or soviets, get some independent source, at least the new publication of Nikolai Ivanow "Warsaw uprising seen from Moscow"... no idea if there`s English translation aviliable already.

Those who say that the Russians halted their siege of Warsaw to thwart the Polish nationalist movement should read Zhukov's memoirs and Heinz Guderian's book Panzer Leader. The Russians were not prepared to make a river crossing into Warsaw in force because they had to regroup first after a costly struggle to get to the banks of the Vistula. Heinz Guderian, the Nazi panzer general, who disputes the nationalist myth, said in his book: "We were under the impression that WE stopped the Russians."

Stalin conceived in his heart that he did not want the possibility of a Polish nationalistic movement. So he massacred many able bodied men in Warsaw. That's what the atrocity boiled down to. I'm wondering if the book "I Saw Poland Betrayed" regarded this. Joe Stalin did a deed as evil and treacherous as anything Hitler did. He told the Poles to rise up and throw the nazis out of Warsaw as his army was at the outskirts. Stalin conceived in his heart that he would annex and plunder Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Lithuania, etc. His people thought that they were going to push the Germans back to the frontier and stop.
