In this assessment for my Media and Communications course, I am attempting to explore the multifaceted nature of Perception in combination with reflection, identity and illusion. Perception is very much an all-encompassing device that we use to navigate ourselves through the urban jungle that surrounds us not only physically via our aural and visual senses but also socially in terms of adjusting our individual body image to suit a desired ideal or situation.

I have used the mirror as a recurring motif as I feel that it represents a site of self-examination and introspection where people are at their most vulnerable and true state as well as conveying ideals of narcissism and vanity. I am fascinated with how people interact with the reflections staring back at them and how very often we subconsciously hide behind a facade or illusion in order to protect or disguise our true selves.

Through this trailer I hope to create a visual sensation that takes the viewer on a journey that prompts them to reassess how we perceive ourselves and others in terms of creating an identity and how mirrors often invite and enable us to perceive reality in a variety of ways, demonstrated by using its reflection to distort and manipulate everyday encounters.
