In 1998, I shot and edited my first short film. For anyone who has ever lived in New York, most of us live in "walk-ups." My first apartment was a five story walk-up in Spanish Harlem. After so many times climbing the stairs, passing my neighbors' doors as I ascended past them to get the top and out of breathe, for each story I climbed, I began to imagine the stories that would come forth from each of the apartments. This film was shot on Ilford B&W (no longer available) and edited on Andy Warhol's six plate Steenbeck. Jonas Mekas, who would later go on to curate this film, describes it as carrying "the energy of film." Please contact the filmmaker for the complete film on DVD @ rebirth AT cine.ma or www.cine.ma.
