1931 marked the year that Dr. Doodle™, Granny Doodle™ and 14 others were introduced as members of a new line of "16 hopefuls" at Toy Fair in New York City. The fundamental toy making principles that Fisher-Price® centered on were intrinsic play value, ingenuity, strong construction, good value for money, and action. Early toys were made of heavy steel parts and ponderosa pine, which resisted splintering and held up well to heavy use. Believe it or not, these principles were at the forefront of innovation for the time. Then in the 1950's Fisher-Price introduced a new material to its toys -- plastic. The Buzzy Bee™ was the first toy ever to be made with plastic -- his wings. Plastic was found to be both durable and versatile and again Fisher-Price heads up innovation in the toy industry. Fast forward 80 years and we're seeing Fisher-Price yet again lead the way in innovation -- launching toys such as the Apptivity™ range of toys to compliment modern technology like iPhone's and iPads. As times have changed, so have we. But one thing has remained constant at Fisher-Price -- the desire to develop toys that give kids the best start in life. Happy Birthday Fisher-Price.
