http://www.vanillajoy.com/family-games-day-5-nertz.html This is a short video teaching you how to play nerts/nertz.
This game has many other names including Nertz, Nirts, Nerf, Gluck, Peanuts, Popeye, Pounce, Solitaire Frenzy, Scrub, Stop, Squeal, Squeak, Squid, Speed, Squinch, Swish, Racing Demon, Race Horse Rummy, Lucky Thirty, Grouch, Hell, Hallelujah, Mertz, Moofles and Nerds.
My family has been playing for a long time as well. Where we come from we wouldn't be allowed to put the seven of diamonds on the black eight. Our rules say the "nertz pile" cards can only go up in the ace area, or in a blank spot (like when you move one pile to another and there's three instead of four). Also, our piles have always been ten and sometimes we have two people per team. Anyway, love this game!

Well done. We also use a 13 card Nertz pile. I think that is the standard amount. dream2451 - we don't allow decorative card faces when we play either. Nertz is confusing enough.=)

You explained it well. We too play with 13 cards in the pile. I wish you had used a regular deck of cards so it would have been easier to see the numbers/suits during the demo. It would make it easier for beginners to understand. Thanks for making this.
