Jimmy and I, from Tri-Cities Liberty Alliance, visited the Occupy camp in Richmond, VA. We talked to a good number of protesters and many seemed to have common views on several particular issues that many tea party people have. Occupiers I talked with were strongly opposed to the Nazi-like Homeland Security Dept. and the TSA X-ray scanners, including the criminal groping. Many are aware of the Federal Reserve cartel and realize the mega-banks wield too much power in Washington. I also sense most Occupiers are against the unconstitutional Patriot Act and would love to see it go away. I think they would also work toward bringing the troops back home and eliminating our costly military empire, which is also more in line with governmental limitations required by the Constitution. So, there are adequate grounds to perhaps work together.
Of course there's the item of collectivism, which many favor. Face it, not a few Republicans also embrace their socialist programs like Medicare, Social Security, Guantanamo Prison, and foreign aid (redistribution of wealth). However, some of these young people, being idealistic, entertain the idea of a real Utopia on earth. This very naive hope of a perfect society, in the now, opens some up to communist ideology. Left wing professors have pumped their minds full of this material. Most have no idea of the horrors brought upon humanity through full blown socialism. Occupy leadership is scooping up these young people and converting many into Marxist ideologues through the movement's activities. It makes me sad, but thankfully, many Occupiers do not favor coercive collectivism. A good number of them want limited government or maybe even no government. There are also some conservatives in their ranks.
I would be careful not to carelessly judge them, because, like the tea party, it is a movement of individuals and they are addressing some legitimate issues, outside of the envy-based 99% mantra.

I encourage free markets and investment, but one major problem is the power of the corporate structure, which has veered from the limitations established by America's founders.
James Madison noted:
There is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity by…corporations. The power of all corporations ought to be limited in this respect. The growing wealth acquired by them never fails to be a source of abuses.
