Hemorrhoid is a common problem even though people feel embarrassed discussing it. Despite being localized, hemorrhoid is not much different from other skin problems as seen in Chinese medicine. Therefore a similar healing approach applies. Please see my video on Skin Rash.

Hemorrhoid usually starts out as a minor scratch on the skin near the anus. However, the small wound fails to heal but gets worse due to various reasons. When it reaches a certain stage, it becomes a long-term nuisance with frequent flare-ups, bleedings and pains. In this video, we try to understand why the scratch fails to heal. Then we'll learn how to quicken the healing process.

What cause the initial scratch in the first place?
• Difficult bowel movements, hard stools scratching the skin.
• Toilet paper not soft enough.
• Unintentional scratch during washing or cleansing.
• Careless sexual activities.

Why does the scratch fail to heal?
• Poor hygiene. Gentle washing is required at least once a day.
• Exposed to polluted or dirty water.
• Too much time sitting especially on bicycle or heated seats.
• Constipation resulting in hard stools, further scratching the hemorrhoid.
• Too much spicy or Hot food. See my video "Hot and Cold I & II".
• Continued careless sexual activities.

The following herbs are recommended as a combination:
1) Reduce inflammation
Bai Tou Weng 白頭翁
Huai Hua 槐花
Huang Qin 黃芩
2) Reduce excess heat
Di Gu Pi 地骨皮
Zhi Mu 知母
3) Cleanse blood
Sheng Di Huang 生地黃
Ban Zhi Lian 半枝蓮
4) Nourish skin
Yu Zhu 玉竹
Mai Men Dong 麥門冬
5) Reduce constipation
Fan Xie Ye 番瀉葉
Da Huang 大黃
