I'm so happy I just happened upon this . I don't even know if I could find it again. I saw The Jolson Story 11 times when I was a kid. This is thrilling.

As far as I know, Al Jolson first recorded this song in the late 20's. In the mid-40's, he re-recorded several of his greatest songs because the technology had improved immensely. There are some excellant biographies of Jolson. He was a truly great live performer, not a good actor, and a miserable, mean man ion his personal life. he treated his wives and friends horribly.

I'm not a Jolson expert, but this recording is new to me. I'm somewhat familiar with the two Jolson movies starring Larry Parks playing the role of Al Jolson, but I don't think this comes from either of these movies. Perhaps it's from a remastered disk? What ever the source, I very much appreciate having the opportunity to enjoy it. I thank the jazz-loving enthusiast who took the time to post this song. You've done a fine, fine job.
Why am I just finding your works? I suspect you found a way to dup off his radio shows.......the sound quality is excellant....thanks so much for sharing. .. another Jolson fan
