Michael Collins discusses the coming "digital tv trainwreck" -- the massive problems related to the transition to digital TV from traditional broadcasts. Early tests, conducted in flat areas, have experienced severe problems....what will happen in areas with less than ideal conditions? Those who don't have satellite or cable, and use traditional "over the air" signals, may lose television, or be forced to sign up for a cable service. This will hurt the poor and elderly who can't afford these services.
I have had two converter boxes. I exchanged one and now my newer one(Philco) has caused my TV bought in 2002 in Los Angeles to turn off and then it showed a blank screen and then went off completely. I tried it without the box, and now I have no TV at all. I live in Austin, Texas. (far south) I think this is to control us without info, to keep poor, elderly uninformed. 1984 is not far away in 2009. Vicki Trusselli
