They shot the actor walking down the hallway six times with the same camera move. Each time he picks up a new phone and pretends to knock down a cardboard version of his previous self at timed moments.
All the passes were combined in flame, using the cardboard cutouts as edit points. The cardboard effect was made by freezing a frame of the outgoing actor, cutting him out loosely and adding a reflective sheen as the image falls towards camera.
