Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, CDH, affects 1 in 2,000 live births. It occurs when the diaphragm is not completely developed, allowing the abdominal contents to migrate into the chest cavity. This can cause the lungs to be underdeveloped and can lead to severe complications for the baby after it's born. Nearly half the babies born with CDH to not live to see their first birthday. Dr. Brad Warner with St. Louis Children's Hospital has undertaken a new research initiative to find a cure and improve care for babies born with CDH. Families gathered at the hospital to raise awareness of the little-known deadly birth defect.
