Dang you're really good. I've got 3 questions about this though:
1. Off of ramps, how do you jump so high sometimes? I press R but it doesn't do much. Do you need to shake the 3DS or something?
2. How do you set an item to be held behind your character?
3. What causes the random blue speed burst?

@Loe151videos 1) Nope, I'm just pressing R as well. It might depend on timing--I do it just as I go off the jump, thus basically leaping off the jump.
2) Hold L
3) Hold R when you're going around a corner--keep holding it to make it red, which is even faster
