this type is a standard toilet type in Russia and I also think in all CIS. Russian people hate the splashes when defecating. So, many people simply don't understand why people want their ass to be splashed and love those toilets.

I think it's quite hilarious that Americans are so uptight about this.
What's wrong with seeing your own excrement? I dont like touching it, eating it and smelling it or whatever just like everone else does but seriously I don't care to see it.
Most people don't even realize that the shelf toilet could be awkward to some :P

And I also never knew it was called a Dutch toilet? Since I've seen this type of toilet in many different countries. We never had one at home tho

im not sure but: dont they have to have that ledgey bit becuase they eat alot of raw (something) and its easier to check for worms or whatever you get from eating raw stuff?
