Congratulations General on the nomination. Now, will someone please tell me how he intends to "help this president achieve the vision he has for the Department (Veterans Affairs)." What is the "vision" Obama has? Is Obama aware of the cabal that plagues this antiquated system? Get real, Obama. There are no treatment programs for PTSD in the military or V.A. Would you like to debate the issue of treatment for combat veterans? Let's have a congressional hearing before any Senate confirmations.

As long as we have capable people in the positions to make the best and most intelligent use of reasources as possible

Why does one get that 'blah, blah, blah' feeling again? Obama believes that he is there 'to maintain the strongest military on the planet.' Given his appointments, an increase in ground forces by 100,000 and $850 billion being spent annually to the miliatry, Sarah Pallin can only become more attractive as time goes by...Change????

He will be a good pick for this job.

Tradition (and federal law) says that a general can't be SoD until 10 years after leaving service. That would be 2013 for Shinseki. This is intended to prevent a Praetorian Guard situation, BTW. Some folks read history.

Well, Gates is not doing a bad job so far, plus General Clark and Zinny can't serve until 2010. If Obama wants one of them, it doesn't make sense to bring in a new guy and kick him out 2 years later.
-
Well why not? Some are drafted, some volunteer - all may potentially risk their lives to help save ours. I don't have a problem calling them all heroes.

it really is incredible how proactive this new administration is.

Obama should've nominated Shinseki for SoD. Shinseki's pre-Iraq testimony was prophetic and says volumes about his insight. Get Gates out, and put Shinseki where he belongs- at the head of our military.

I think it was a joke because Obama was born in Hawaii and people keep saying he wasn't born in the US even though he's provided his birth certificate. :P
hell yeah...the right man for the job..if he looks out for the vets like he did for the active duty in 2003..we will succeed.
kudos to obama
