This 1953 classic is unusual in several ways- It's told from the point of view of a child, and has a surreal, expressionistic poduction design. It looks as if it were filmed for 3D, but it was not.

  • Awesome movie, one of my faves. Where did you get this version? Laser Disc? I noticed in the observatory we see Jimmy Hunt in a vest for a mere moment. the screwy vest scene (as he wasn't wearing a vest in the rest of the scene) was added to the UK version which also includes a discussion of UFOs. The original US version should not have any scene of the vest, but I think I heard there are different cuts/edits from various sources. Still need to see the rest of the parts for other anomalies...

  • @LiquidGardener This just came off of Google video. It has the US ending, but there's no telling how many different cuts there are.

  • It's all real guys! Just to test the sociological behaviour of the population with this type of knowledge. After 1953 abductions started to become more common. The enteties were'nt that different from the ones they found or they've entered in contact with.

  • The Laser disc has the alternate ending. Jimmy Hunt and the other actors were called back a time later to shoot that alternate scene. Hair difference is noticable with all three actors plus Jimmy Hunt's vest.

  • The poor mans war of the worlds.......(!)

  • i remember the glass incased alien with the tennacles sticking out just a quick still shot with no movie title identifying it, so its a pleasure to see ithe movieat last in its entirity a very good one that treated kids as adults, so its a good message there, for even kids want to be hero's if only in thy're imaginations.

  • oh mary you know i cant talk about that...but i'll sure as shit hint at it a lot.

  • masterpiece.

  • This movie really scared me when I first saw it on TV in 1960. We only had a black-and-white tv at the time so I didn't know it was in color. That music and unearthly choir really scared me. I think the musical inspiration may have been from Holst's "The Planets."

  • Of all the classic sci-fi movies, this is my favorite. It is superb, and the music and voices so haunting I remembered them all my life. I first saw this when I was about 7 and although it scared me to death, it also fascinated me. Love the sandpit and those voices.

  • @macemcguire i was 5 yrs old and very impressionable at that tine also scared me except the rubber suits looked fake even way back then.
