  • as great as these new effect touch ups are ... the GREATEST point that can be made from watching this ... is realizing how minimal the classic series relied on elaborate space scenes and effects. only 1:29 seconds of effects that had to be touched up in a 60 minutes episode!! The rest was story, story, story!!!!!

why can't the JJ's and Lucas' of today get this through their heads? STORY!!! why does the general populace get SO intrigued by bells and whistles ... and reward nonsense

  • @joeylodes The general populace cant handle a story anymore. They just want to see shit getting blown up while they stuff their faces with cholesterol and saturated fat.

  • @amrak63 What about the giant energy-sucking space amoeba from THE IMMUNITY SYNDROME (I think that was the title.)?

  • @GoblinXXX Also, the Enterprise originally HIT the cloud. The cloud was just out of "phase".

  • I wasn't terribly impressed with the cloud effect, here. Its movements seemed repetitive, and didn't give the impression of either being alive or really even a GAS. I'd have to see the original effects again to fully compare, but from my memory of it, this isn't a significant improvement.

  • @Velikan121 yeah lucky there was no one living there. or was there?

  • @Nonsensei436 Yeah. Exactly. See Abrams' 2009 Trek travesty.

  • @eagle219406 Set on "disrupt", phasers can disperse gaseous clouds. They didn't work on the creature because of its ability to throw itself slightly forward or backward in time, so that the phasers (also the photon torpedoes) would miss it. If such a creature encountered two Klingon D7s, one of them armed with the stasis field projector from the TAS tribble episode, I'd guess the SFP would freeze the creature's ability to do that so the other D7 could kill it.

  • Best. Monster. Episode. ^__^

Note: I count the Horta as an alien, not a monster, and I don't count the Doomsday Machine as a monster because it wasn't alive.

  • LOVE the parting shot with the huge crater on the planet!

  • @Nonsensei436 Yep. :(
