Back in the mid-50's my mother and I would catch the DSR bus on Fort Street near Schaefer and take it downtown to Hudson's. That started as tradition for me. When I got older, I would visit the store after Thanksgiving, I'd take one of those fantastic elevators (complete with operator), ride it up as high as allowed, and then work my way down each floor. I always seemed to take the longest on the Mezzanine. Of course, the Maurice Salad was a must before leaving.
Mmmm. The Maurice salad. It was a tradition to go school and Christas shopping with my grandmother at the Hudson's restaurant. We always had the Maurice salad.
my grandma worked at the downtown hudson's store just about the same time this lady did... she worked in the cash receiving area in the 2nd basement with the cash tubes and was a gift wrapper at christmas time.
@thecuckookid Oh I know! That and the Mickey Mouse Sundae. :) Macy's has the pot pie. It's just not the same anymore. :(

Hudson's downtown was a wonderful store, especially at Christmas. It is so sad to see what Detroit has become and to realize that it is gone forever.

If I live to be 200 years old, I will never forget that chicken pot pie.

My Mom and Grandma used to go there ALL the time. Amazing stories of that department store. All gone now...sad.
