Mu is the name of a hypothetical continent that allegedly existed in one of Earth's oceans, but disappeared at the dawn of human history.

The concept and the name were proposed by 19th century traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon, who claimed that several ancient civilizations, such as those of Egypt and Mesoamerica, were created by refugees from Mu—which he located in the Atlantic Ocean. This concept was popularized and expanded by James Churchward, who asserted that Mu was once located in the Pacific.

The existence of Mu was disputed already in Le Plongeon's time. Today, scientists generally dismiss the concept of Mu (and of other lost continents like Lemuria) as physically impossible, since a continent can neither sink nor be destroyed by any conceivable catastrophe, especially not in the short time required by this premise. Moreover, the weight of all archaeological, linguistic, and genetic evidence is contrary to the claim that the ancient civilizations of the New and Old Worlds stemmed from a common ancestral civilization. Mu is today considered to be a fictional place./wikipedia

  • Don't know about the hypothetical continent, but Mu were one of the best and under-rated bands of the 70's. Great to hear them on youtube!

  • @karlkarlkarl1234 ...LOL

That's funny. I just love how stories are just made up and actually wind up as a footnote of our possible origins..

It's sounds great but when modern scholars went over August Le Plongeon's translations of ancient Mayan scripts they discovered he in fact had no knowledge of the language what-so-ever and was simply making it all up as he went along. Hehe.

  • @karlkarlkarl1234 ... Very interesting. The history, it's deep.

  • Augustus Le Plongeon also thought that Queen Moo & Prince Coh were historical figures, with Queen Moo fleeing the Mayan Central American civilization after the murder of her husband and eventually residing in the Mayan colonies of Egypt where she became deified as Isis, and retrospectively Prince Coh as Osiris.

In other words he was on some good shit.
