Bishop John Spong says he is quite willing for people to demonstrate to him that his beliefs and values are inadequate. And, he says, he is constantly changing.

I find that Spong is truthful in what he things, and feels, and lets her rip when he feels its needed. Now, having said that, is is also kind of two faced, and this limits my respect of him somewhat. If he believes all that hem does, he should have never taken the post of Bishop. And if he got that way after he did, he should have resigned and become a Unitarian clergyman. I find it funny that he wears his clerical garb to put the weight of the church behind what he speaks on. Many are offended.

This is the only preacher I would even consider listening to. His message goes beyond the Bible and incorporates known information. His message could either save the Christian faith or destroy it.

What is absurd with Bishop Spong is that he holds to nothing resembling the orthodox Christian faith and, as an Episcopal priest, I can assert that his views conflict with those stated in the Ordinal to which all Episcopal priests and bishops subscribe. And he collects a very generous pension, I'm sure, from the Church Pension Group. That's the absurdity--the biting of the hand that feeds him.

As I am trying to be a christian, but how can we believe in things that are so much NOT supported by any reason or evidence? What does it mean to be a Christian? As I have been told I must believe that Jesus is God/son of God and that he dies for our sins and that He is the Lord and savior. I dont know if I can believe in these things and have "faith" in anything.

@DocHoliday916 Way to show that Spong is spot on with his evaluation of many religious people. You are doing exactly what he is accusing you of doing, not scrutinizing your beleifs, not listening to opposing points of view, and showing hatred whever your beliefs are questioned. Shame on you.

This guy is nothing more than a self aggrandizing fool. His writing on the denial of the resurrection of Christ is flat out heresy. The he has not been censured by the Episcopal House of Bishops testifies to the abject flakiness of the Episcopal Church.
