I've mod my Peavey Generation EXP with Fender Texas Special telecaster set, and i was very satisfied of neck tone and the bridge too is quite good but i've some heavy feedback problems with gain tone. As i blocked pickups on the wood of the body, i guessed was that the problem... but i mistake. Spending time on it, i find the bass plate (the metal bar under the bridge pickup) was the problem and made this pickup be noisy and feedback even at low volume. I put over... and wow! Now the bridge sounds great, has more highs and less bass like a tele should, and even position with both pickup has a great improvement. And no noises and no feedback (is not noiseless, but with the plate it was very rumorous)

  • Man, that is some nice pickin'.

    Very cool.

  • @clydestopper thank you

  • Hoping you can help with a question - I just put these in my Tele with the 4 way switch and I'm getting a lot of hum when I am in bridge only and neck only selection. Is that normal? Did I mess up my wiring?

  • @charlieczerwinski hi, i guess you did same mistake as me and i guess as anyone on this world, because hot pole was the black! you have the baseplate on bridge at the positive instead of negative/ground at it should be. so you get hum and a bad feedback if you use distortion at volume. check with the tester :)

  • @rafport Thanks for responding - so are you saying that black is actually hot? I should switch my wiring for bridge only? Strange thing is that I am getting the hum in neck pickup too - did you have that problem?

  • @charlieczerwinski i remind most in bridge, because the baseplate do like a mic and feedback a lot. anyway if inverted positive and negative you'll get even the metal cover on bridge on hot pole. you can check with a tester. if you have 3 wires (now i dont rembember if they was 3 on both pickups) you can put in phase or out, no difference but the metal external to pickup need to be in ground. before unsolder you should check, but i remind well that seeking for a solution for me i notice

  • @charlieczerwinski the metal part go to positive and as i did not mistake in soldering, i invert the wires and all become perfect and no feedback, putting colour (yellow maybe i not sure i mount a ton of pickups) on ground and black in the selector. a very strange thing!

  • i hope its the podxt that makes it sound so shitty and not the guitar

  • Did the bridge pickup sqeel like a microphone before you removed the base plate? I think I am having the same problem and may remove my baseplate too.
