  • @itstomd I remember how excited I was watching programs load from paper tape. It was enough to know that I didn't have to toggle in all those instructions each time.

  • And start the reader.. and wait.. ... i guess at that point you just stare for awhile

  • Thank you, very interesting. I am interested in the very basics of computers, so how they act on the 0 and 1 level. One question: what is the program doing?

  • "and I'll carry on toggling this in." (Fades to black), LOL!

  • This is one reason why computers back then would stay online for months, if not years: starting the damn thing was a bitch!

  • This shouldn't be surprising when you consider Wirth's law, as I'd put it: the weight of the servant's burden increases faster than his own abilities can.

  • Thank you for posting this video. It's a wonderful piece of computer history and important for people to see and to be preserved.

  • Hello, very impressive, all 4 videos ! Nice to see these computer-oldies running again and are still under service. For me, it's a reminiscence to the beginning of my DEC employee timeframe where I fixed this computer on Chip-Level... Is it possible to see an additional video to show an open PDP-8 ? Regards

  • Even entering the program to read the paper tape it boots faster than Vista!
