And nowadays, the UK has decided not to vote for it when France and Germany took the decision to impose it. Thus, the ultimate winner in this race will be... the UK.
Tobin tax is just unfair because trading is a zero sum game. No money is created during trading. It moves from 1 pocket to te other. Even a small tax of 0.1% of the underlying value would cause complete market caps of companies to be drained from the market in only a few years of trading. If all shares of a company are traded during a trading day then 0.1% of the entire market cap of that company leaves the market. In 10 days 1% in 3 years 100%. This money leaves the markets.
@DukeofWellington91 Although Hannan is absolutely correct that it should be a worldwide agreement, and taxation should go straight to government treasuries.
I will be honest, this is one of the few regulatory measures I would support. It is just common sense, there are occasions when academic dogma can be put to one side.
National Governments should implement at 1% Tobin Tax on ALL financial transactions and the revenue should go straight into the treasury of the National Government, then the people need Tax relief.
Ah, very sneaky. So this isn't about protecting markets. Its just a Trojan Horse for the EU to collect tax Federally and have its own revenue stream to use without the burden of having to consult with member states. Hijacking sovereignty.
not sure how this got on a naval theme, being an 8 year veteran of us navy i'll say we have a a storied and proud tradition. we handed middle east pirates thier own asses when everyone else were happy to pay tribute & keep the goods flowing. we rowed the uss. constitution away from a spirited royal navy pursuit. ole brittania gave us a tradition and legacy to to emulate and better. we took the best of thier notions and expanded them. who cares what they eat. ever heard of rocky mt. oysters?
