University of New Mexico junior defender Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended after being caught on camera punching an opponent and pulling the hair of another.
Spot on! I had the exact same thoughts myself when I saw the video. The BYU players were instigators and I don't know whether they received any punishment or not. HOWEVER, instead of punching and pulling hair, how about destroying them on the field / pitch. If you're a better player anyway, why not just outperform these cheaters. When you beat cheaters, you can scoreboard them after game.
All of the players involved make me sick, but the retaliation was certainly excessive.
@psychosillygal102 jcorrect, both should be punished, which is the entire point of the video. It's all fair and well saying "let the justice system do it's thing.." etc, but if the officials do not see those little bumps, they do nothing. Players know this, that's why they do it, and Elizabeth knew that it would go unpunished otherwise.
@Arkesus As I said both should have been penalized.. Anyways I have never felt the need to hit back I allow whomever hit then sit back and let the legal system take care of the rest because honestly, I'm just not that good at phyiscal stuff.. but What I was trying to say never came out in the first post. They both should have been penalized.... But I still hold firm it was wrong to straight out punch her in the face.... That is all for now.......
@psychosillygal102 wow, what an adult post. I never said "the fix to violence is violence", I merely said the reason why Elizabeth reacted that way, was because she was struck first. "Feeding fire to the fire" there shouldn't be a fire, Elizabeth would not have punched if they had been playing by the rules in the first instance. The solution to violence, is NO VIOLENCE. But as with anything in life, you hit someone, prepare to get hit back.
Clearly your a mindless tard who see's the fix to violence is violence instead of just walking off the field which I did many times because of attacks that were unjust or just annoying.. and yes an elbow grab may interfere with the game but still the both should have been red carded or suspended or what ever.. The minor assault DO NOT JUSTIFY A PUNCH!!!! Feeding fire to fire just increases them flame!!!!
I've played soccer for 18 years. There will always be some bumping, pulling, tusseling for position... and it can be called part of the game. What the defender did is not part of the game. She actually had much more 'cheating' caught on tape, but these were the two that most post.
I agree that taking dives or flops is cheating and should be punished (even if it has to be punished after a game via video replay).
