Sure, it can be a bit of a fuss to get around without a car. However, in Tehran, people are likely to pick you up and drop you off to where you need to go.

As you can see in this video, I wanted to get into a cab, but I didn't find one going my way. So we just got into someone's car. They just picked us up, and dropped us in the direction we wanted to go (since it was on their way)...

There are also plenty of people who drive around town, pick people up, and get paid to do it (with their own cars). Usually people will say, it is free "ghabel nadareh" or it is not worthy of you, and then you say, no really, how much can I pay. Then they will tell you how much. This happens all the time, no matter where you go shopping.

"how much?"

"ghabel nadareh" (it is not worthy of you)

"No thanks, really."

"400 Tomans please."

  • In iran you can get in a cab, or in a car, and then pay the person. people get on in the highway, on the street, you might even take 3 separate cabs to work--get on one, get on another, and you CARPOOL. by the way, my cousin was in the car with me, a man, (the one shooting the video) so it was ok and safe. If I was alone, I would have gotten in a cab or in a car that looked safe and had a lot of people in it.

  • ok people, let me just make it clear that i was with my cousin, a man, we rode this car together, all was fine, seriously. in iran you can hitchhike, a concept that is not so common in big american cities, and i put this video up to show this element of persian culture.

  • heeee????

Lol!! Tehran is the capital of Iran. Its a country in the Middle East. Next to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

  • Its a shame that some people prefer to get into stranger cars and be flirted along the way, because they think it is faster and cheaper than taxi.

  • Good video, always a pleasure when people can realize that Iran is a beautiful culture (dare i say it: in many aspects superior).

Unfortunately for Americans, they think we ride on camels and live in desert.

    A culture ruined by mullahs

  • I agree that in my experience, it's VERY common for regular people to act as taxis in Iran. Unsafe? Maybe... generally there are like two other families in the car, and a small child wedged under the armpit of the driver (exaggerating :P) so it doesn't seem that scary hah.

  • @roshanakmofidi LOL I went back to Iran and wasn't aware of this "tarof" business. So the taxi drivers like "ghabel nadare... 5 toman" and I was with friends that were paying and I'm like "Why are you paying?! goft ghabel nadare XD". The taxi driver blushed like crazy (khejalat keshid ke man tarofesho accept kardam)

  • lol that's very true

  • hahah reverse on a highway :D only in iran ive seen this and i love it lol!!! buddy in the pegout thinks hes the lucky man of the day eh? XD

  • @laghshom
