Fighting Poverty in the Least Developed Countries: Poverty is gaining ground, economic and social disparities are more and more pronounced. Conscious of this painful evidence, Europe has launched a major reform of its developmental support policies. In the asserted objective to reduce poverty, the EU aims its support towards very specific fields: rural development and food security, education and health, commercial development, peace, stability and good governance, the environment and transport. With 70% of the poorest populations living in rural areas and depending upon agriculture, rural development is the major key of cooperative programs. Illiteracy and diseases such as AIDS are impediments to development, therefore the EU gives priority to basic education, vocational training and top level qualifications as well as health care for all. The initiative known as "Everything But Arms" offers the Least Developed Countries exporters access to the European market, free of taxes or quotas. Essential conditions for the eradication of poverty, peace and good governance are integral part of the Union's aid policy. Sustainable management of the environment is a part of that policy as well. As commercial development depends upon transport, the EU cooperation programs emphasize the creation and maintenance of sustainable transport systems.
I've just gotta throw in something. The EU might be fighting poverty in name with money and all that. They do actually. BUT, the EU's agricultural budget actually increases poverty. That is a major problem and needs to be resolved.
