Kolkata Kalangan,Institute of Performing Arts (K.K.I.P.A.) has been successfully engaged in imparting dancing lessons and performing dance programmes of both Classical,Tagorian and Folk genre for almost 15 years now. We are stationed at Kolkata. During these years we have staged varieties of dance performances all over the country. To foster all round development of budding talents of our institute, every year we organize Nature Camps around or beyond the city of Kolkata. In these Nature Camps students of our institute are encouraged to participate in a day long programme which includes planting trees, watering plants, painting pictures, singing, performing self choreographed dances or even enacting dance sequences from Indian films. Participation in the Nature Camp promotes in them an awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving the environment around us and the accompanying cultural activities develop a strong bond and unity as also team spirit and spirit of cooperation amongst them. In October 2008 , we have staged Rabindranath Tagores dancedrama Chitrangada(Incidentally Tagore is the only Indian recipient of Noble Prize in 1913 in literature , who has left behind a vast output of songs, poems and novels for which he is still greatly worshipped with reverence in India ,particularly in Bengal) in Kolkata in collaboration with D.I.T Nataraj ,Berlin. For the very first time German dancers have come together with Indian dancers on the same platform to stage the very popular dance drama and it has been highly acclaimed by people from all walks of life from here and abroad. Spurred by the grand success of this Indo-German joint venture we look forward to more of such joint ventures between Kolkata Kalangan and similar Institutes from across the world so that people of other countries can come closer to us and we can get closer to them thus bridging the cultural and social barriers which separate us from one another.Contact e-mail:dasswati@hotmail.com /moinakdas@yahoo.com
