This is a rather simple video using a poem of St John of the Cross -- a poem sung by John Michael Talbot -- to show the desire of the soul for her beloved, Christ.

  • Yes, that is a great album.

It's true, the Song of Songs is indeed the source for this, as interpreted in tradition through authors such as Origen and St Bernard. But St John of the Cross made it his own, putting it into a new wisdom tradition!

  • You are welcome. I hope to do more like this from time to time in the future. Currently (as probably my profile shows) I've been working on stop-motion filming so I can put together a video presentation of a work of Lewis which I thought would be amusing to make an amateur movie about. What it is I will announce when it is close to being finished and if I think it is turning out well.

  • I have always loved the meditative quality to John's voice. Sometimes it feels as though I am falling in love with God while I'm listening.

Thank you for your gift! Jeannemarie

  • Yes, please do!

  • Could someone post an audio recording of "In the Beginning" and the one about asking the Lord for forgiveness where a choir sings and then you hear, "so let us come as little children..turn from the pride of selfishness". His St. Francis peace prayer version is great too! I like all tracks on "Simple Heart"

  • That one is excellent! I didn't get the first song until I learned its "Song of Songs" meets the Church as being us within it and it was the bride of Christ that came from him as Eve came from the side of Adam. Please post that song, itself, and The Empty Canvas!

  • "Sometimes it feels as though I am falling in love with God while I'm listening."

What a beautiful way to describe it!

  • I was steeped in John's music for many years. Truly a meditative and introspective way to experience the Word. He's my favorite Christian musician. I saw him in Boston years ago with my father's prayer group at the Basilica of St. John. Gifted musician!

Thank you for posting this. JM : )
