The stills from 00;25 to 00;35 are off a British agent from the Cairo (murder) gang and were taken during the fatal shootout between SeánTreacy and Agent Price. Shortly after, both men lay dead after a squad of British soldiers shot to kill before asking who was who.

  • Cool. Send on a link if you can. Cheers!

  • Hi. I only made the the vid so the song could be uploaded on youtube. There isn't much to work with on google images from that era. Thanks for the feedback though. Can you quote your source material? I heard the story about the boy but was told the 00;25 - 00;30 pics were taken by him too. Tim Pat Coogan, in his 'Michael Collins' named those lads as Cairo Gang from what I remember.

  • Someone's kindly given it to me on tape - now I just have to work out how to transfer it to my Mac.

  • There's a few websites that let you download youtube stuff as MP3s

  • Sean Treacy was the son of my great granddad's sister, Bridget. My great granddad was George Allis who taught Sean about Irish history from an early age.

Thankyou for uploading this. I wish he hadn't been taken from us at such a young age.

Like Michael Collins, he didn't want war....he wanted freedom and justice.

  • I love the melody in this song, fairly haunting. Any chance of getting the lyrics?

  • Have the original album recorded in NY in 1957. See my entire comment under Patriot Game comments if interested.

  • It is reported elsewhere that the photo here depicting the "Cairo Gang" is, in fact,

of ADRIC officers from F Coy - Dublin. Also, the images from 00.25 - 00.30 are

said to be from a film made a few years later. However the street scene with the

crowd around the prone bodies (approx. 00.38) looks like the real thing.

Footnote: a youngster with a borrowed (and expensive camera) followed the

troops and took a famous photograph of the scene showing Treacy and Lt.

    Price lying dead.

  • nice one

  • The tune is 'Van Dieman's Land' (aka Gallant Poachers). Words altered obviously.

    Top rendition though. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Ive been to the plaque, I think its something like a laundry below. The building was the Republican Outfitters of Paedar Clancy. The plaque is at the level of the first floor if anyone wants to look for it, The photo supposedly showing 'Cairo gang' is odd. It doesnt show Newberry, baggallay or any of the British officers who were killed. I think it might not be what it is purported to be. (I have photos of the ones killed and they do not match at all)

  • Gorgeous, haven't heard this in years and years. Limerick Green is a fantastic song too. Someone, please post. Thanks again for this.
