thank you for discussing this important matter and personal accout of your experience in El Salvador and Nicaragua. How did it affect you mentally? And, upon your return to the US. Did you receive free medical attention for life plus retirement benefits? Have you found internal peace?
not "friendly fire"---allies accidently attacking us.We didn't need to be told that,we allready knew. What we didn't now was;who was attacking us.We still don't know.We may never know...We were sure it had to do with us not thinking of women, children, priests and nuns as enemies. And standing up for them from time to time.Me and the men I worked with, strived to protect, defend and assist,to the utmost of our ability, the poor, the oppressed, the women and the children. And I think it cost us.Dearly.
(4)February 25,1981;eighteen of us were sent to deliver a shipment of arms to Contras. When we got to the meeting place, there was nobody there. When we decided to leave, the ambush began.Five men were injured right away, and we began a retreat.During the retreat, those five men and eight others were killed.Only five of us got away.None of us were uninjured.Only our Captain was not given a Medical Discharge. He served in the First Gulf War and retired with honor. We were told what happened to us was---
So(3)it was these groups who were "command".The people in charge. We were in the U.S.Army.But,we were made to look like European and African mercenaries. That's because it's an act of Treason for employees of the American government to sell arms to non-Americans.We were supposed to be helping the Guardia Nacionale of El Salvador and the Contras. But,we didn't think they needed our help. They seemed to be terrorizing the countryside, just fine, all on their own.We all wanted to go back to Afghanistan.
We were also told that Catholic priests and nuns were working for the Communists, and that none of them could be trusted. We were transfered to El Salvador,no more than a month and a half after the assassination of ArchBishop Romero.None of us believed priests and nuns would be Communists,as Communism is anti-religion(other than itself)and all we saw them doing was helping the poor survive. The CIA,U.S.Marines and U.S.Army were those initiating us in Central American politics.
muy informativo, gracias por compartir estas memorias de un pueblo valiente.

I am starting to understand, but what is the relation between the weapons you had to sell and the women and children?
Who were the customers?
