Everytime I hear this song, I think about that fantastic summer of 1988 at my cousin Jimmy's place in Jacksonville when I was 10. Catching fish, picking blackberries, going swimming, eating peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches, playing Zelda on his NES, collecting Transformers (when they were METAL, dammit!) and watching MTV. This song is part of that summer's soundtrack.
This is a real unique sound. A classy arrangement. The overall approach of the lyrics is pretty original. Setting up this metaphor of someone playing a piano in the dark. And by doing so luring his lover back to him.
This song stood out back in the spring of 88 when it was a hit. Again very classy and soft without being too much of an elevator music song. It was nominated for a Grammy .
Beautiful Song. Something I'll listen to driving at night while it is raining lightly. I rank this with Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' as one of the better 'quiet storm' recordings.

Reminds me of when I packed for college, and heard this one. Anyone remember "Lady in Red" by Chris Deburg?
