@ JTelli, the directors of Flyboys addressed the "All Dr1" German fighter in the DVD.. Most audiences wouldn't be able to tell a German Albatros from an French N-17 on their BEST day, hence the plethora of Tripes...
@Mattie123 As I understand it flyboys was loosely based on the Layfaette Escadrille and their exploits. Whether or not the events depicted are true is irrelevent from a cinematic point of view. The point of the story was to show what the air war in WW1 was like & the perils the pilots- on both sides- faced, namely no parachutes or self-sealing fuel tanks. Burning to death in the air was the biggest fear of all pilots on both sides in that war, a fate shared by Luftbery, Mannock, & Barraca.
