i forgot to add that the puck carrier would still reverse the play but he would pass it to the other d man and have him move the puck up quicker than having the puck carrier skate it back himself.

Actually I think it would be best to have the 2nd D man cover the forechecker who has parked himself in front of the net. If the 2nd Dman was in the corner, and the 1st D man turns the puck over, the the goalie is all by himself .

The smartest play that could have been made would not have included the puck carrier it would have been his d partner. If his partner had went to the corner behind the direction the puck carrier was moving it would make the break out more efficient and safer. This is a nice individual play just that when the get across the blue line the other team is right on them. If they had reversed the play the three forwards would have been caught deep causing an odd man rush.
