No one seems to be seeing the real problem with his and also her roll motion. They are both punching out with the top hand. When you punch out with the top hand rather than keeping in close to the shoulder your paddle goes from a brace position, which is need to get your body up out of the water at the end of the roll, to sticking straight down in the water which take all support away from the paddle, sometimes referred to as 'spearing'. Look at the image for this video. Paddle straight up.

how not to roll lol :)
I'd love to see this roll in whitewater.
-
was that meant to be a c to c roll or a back deck roll???
-
you need to get your paddle out of the water alot more, when this is out , your head should be where your paddle was in this video, if you let your boat bring you head up then you will do a roll very easy.
-
put your paddle on top of the water

Go take some pool sessions with an instructor before you learn more bad habits :)

that just does not look like a position i want to be in. especially in fast moving water with rocks below... scary thought.

your supposed to bring your head up last
Your Paddle is way to far down in the water, reach it all the way to the surface of the water and then hip-snap and use your paddle last to help get your head up after the boat is already up.

it looks like you are mixing two techniques together your paddle is in c to c roll position but your body is doing twist an slice an you are leaning back over back deck this is why you are not coming up every time an will put you in trouble on fast moving water, instead of leaning back lean forward when you are submerged and snap your hips head up last, an you will come up everytime first go, good luck
