Special Report: Strong quake jolts SW China

Transport authorities across the country have taken measures to ensure roads to quake-ravaged areas have been cleared.
The Ministry of Transportation has sent four teams to Sichuan to evaluate road damage and draft a plan for road reconstruction work. More than 28,000 kilometers of roads have been damaged and more than 3000 bridges have collapsed. So far, about 20,000 kilometers of road has been cleared. Of the 439 hardest-hit townships, traffic to almost 400 townships is back to normal.

The Ministry has also sent seaplanes to quake-hit regions. As of Tuesday, 20 flights by 4 helicopters have sent more than ten tons of food and water, and transferred 70 survivors to hospitals.

Meanwhile, China's railway services have delivered more than 3 million tons of relief supplies and taken over 300,000 disaster relief personnel to the quake zone.
