With the London Festival Orchestra conducted by Stanley Black, circa 1974.

Happy Independence Day, America.

Included are miscellaneous photos that go along with the lyrics. With the exception of the Merrill photos and the grain, mountain, peaches, and sunset, all the photos were taken by me on the various road trips I take from time to time.

Of particular interest is the one at 2:55. This is the Pyramid in Memphis, TN. I took the photo as the sun was setting and reflecting off the pyramid's mirrored surface.

  • Wonderful recording; I think from his album "Americana" which I have on reel to reel.

  • Yes, it was reissued on CD in the 90s but the exact recording date wasn't given on that version. I guessed around 1974. Do you know when he recorded it?

  • WOW !!! If this doesn't make you PROUD to be American then move to Russia.

  • According to the back of the CD "Americana" for which this song was recorded, the "P" was 1965.

  • Dear GOS,

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for this and the great pictures which are not in either one of his two books. Everyone loves the 4th of July except my dog with the firecrackers but he sure likes Merrill!

  • Who better than the great Merrill to sing this most patriotic song. Thank you, my friend, for this.

  • The most wonderful of the songs celebrating what is beautiful here. Thank you GOS.

  • Thank you for this.

  • Never knew it was released on CD or else I'd have it. No idea on the date; nothing on my tape or box either. I hate when record companies release things like this with no info. The LP release's cat number is SP-44065 and my tape's is LPL-74065. The only way to find out I guess is by finding out when London and Ampex used those numbers. 1974 is a good guess. Some other sources have said 196? but I'd say more like 197?!
