Why do the students think the police enjoy having to hit them? They are there to ensure the situation doesn't get out of hand (i.e: windows smashed and other damage to the campus property etc). To do so they try to keep the protesters in an enclosed area. The ones being hit have left the designated area and the police are trying to push them back. They are doing their jobs. They are there to protect the property of the board members and the students not taking part in the rally.
