Documentary celebrating the University of Alberta's establishment of the ECMC Chair in Islamic Studies.

It explores what this chair means to Muslims and the wider community in Edmonton and Canada, in terms of the diversity of traditions, cultures and interpretations within Islam. It does this in the context of Muslim settlement in the prairie city of Edmonton, including the building of the al-Rashid mosque, which was the first mosque in Canada. The video also outlines the history of the Islamic civilizations going back to the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). It features interviews with Dr. Earle Waugh, Larry Shaben and Nashir Karmali.

The Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities, or ECMC, is an umbrella organization made up of 9 communities from the Edmonton Muslim community, including both Shia and Sunni groups, such as the Ismaili, Ithna'ashari and Canadian Islamic Centre. For more information, please see their website:

Blah, Blah Blah. There is no intellectal inititive in Islam. Its all about tribalistic hatred that Mohamed demonstrated.

Never let Islamic tribalism invade Canada. If people want to leave Islam and come to canada, fine. Question Immigrants coming from Islamic lands. This is not racist, it simply recognizes the hateful, tribalistic cultures they come from and chastises their cultural thoughts that don't fit with our most basic beliefs.

Sadly I'm sure I can't change your view. Canada's basic beliefs are from Western liberal philosophy of the Enlightenment based on Greek philosophy. This would have been lost w/o translation & development by Muslim philosophers.

Please don't judge Islam by al-Qaeda. I don't judge Christians by Tim McVeigh, Crusades or IRA. Im a proud Muslim-Canadian & see no contradiction in that. Many businesspeople, Federal & Provincial politicians, & even the Exec Producer of Hockey Night in Canada is Muslim!

This is what used to be said of Jews when they used to be discriminated against by Europeans and Americans.I suggest you educated yourself first about the history of Islam and Muslims before making such racist comments.

Quran on Christians:

Quran is the ONLY non-Christian scripture in the world where Jesus Christ and Mary have been honored with very high regard [3:42, 5:46, Chapter 3, Chapter 19 on Mary, etc.], good Christians have been praised with respect [3:113-115, 5:65-66, 5:82, etc.], and they have also been offered salvation if they follow their own scriptures [5:69, 5:65-66, 3:113-115, 2:62, etc.].
