I might buy a 1993 Japan 60s/62 strat?
Says Collectible Series...
but the body is basswood not alder...do you think it makes a difference?

I never heard about the Collectible Series, but Fender Japan reissue guitars ar great instruments !
Their weak point is electronics, but you can easily replace it with good one, and perhaps the vibrato.
About the wood question, I haven't got tested much guitar yet to telle you if the difference is important or not.
