big joe williams was the first person to record it with the message of "baby please dont go" where as another man done gone was the same song essentially, but with a diferent meaning. either way both probly came from something totally diferent from before we were all born.

its actually a variation on an old folk song "another man done gone" its ancient, i have recordings of it from the 20's
