@lew00t I've always had a problem with that. I've kept my hand high form the first time I ever fenced, but I still occasionally move it in front of me without even realizing it.

@presbarkeep Their jackets register hits electronically. The wire is part of the scoring system. They're actually not much of an issue to the fencer, though. They don't pull by any noticeable amount.

Simply because the good fencers are already trained to have their hand out of the way, they've completely broken the instinct to block with their free hand. Forcing new fencers to keep their off hand high and out of the way is the best way to quickly break that habit.

I just started fencing today, for the first time, and I have to say, It's a lot of fun, I really like it ^^
