Liebestreu - Love Endures
(A conversation between a mother and daughter)
"Sink your sorrow, my child, in the deep sea!" A stone indeed stays on the ocean's bottom, but my sorrow will always rise to the surface.
"And the love that you bear in your heart, pluck it out, my child!" Even though a flower dies when it is picked, true love does not die so easily.
"And faithfulness was only a word; cast it into the wind." Oh mother, although a rock may shatter in the wind, my faithfulness will endure.
-(Side note: this is an incredibly emotional and deep song that is truly rewarding to perform and study, although not as rewarding to hear just once in performance.)

Geheimnis - Secrets
Oh the twilight of a spring evening! Oh mild, gentle breezes! You trees full of blossoms, why are you standing so closely together? Do you share with one another the secret of our sweet love?

Both lieder by Johannes Brahms
