  • Hi Robert,

Thanks so much fop ryour comment. No special reason for the placement of the focal point in the abstract, just what looked best to my eye. The title of the abstract is Tide Pool.

  • A lovely painting, Jan! thanks for explaining your process.

  • Hi Serra, Thanks so much for visiting. Glad the explanation was helpful.

  • yes! I love the subtle cloud vortex. (and I like the all compositional things that you explain) Nice work

  • You combine inspirations from two of my heroes: Turner and Hopper, along with great paintingskills, as well as the abilty to teach. Just what I´ve been looking for. Thanks a lot!

  • Thank you for an excellent lesson on design and composition. I loved your comparison with your abstract painting. Focal point, eye path and motion in painting were hard for me for a long time.

Your abstract looks like a yin-yang symbol coalescing out of colorful chaos. The focal point is off center horizontally and centered vertically. Is there a reason for that placement?

To me that makes it look like balance forming in disorder.

I don't usually like abstracts but that one's great.
