Using their knowledge of fish culture, Fish Hatchery Managers develop and carry out methods for the rearing of fish in hatcheries. Much of their work consists of directing Fish Farming Workers who perform the tasks of raising the fish. Fish Hatchery Managers often confer with Fish Pathologists, Biologists, and other experts to get facts on the diseases of food, environmental requirements, and habits of fish. Fish Hatchery Managers study the life cycles of fish; they keep records on fish size, condition, and production, and work to improve the hatching and growth rates, and to prevent disease in hatcheries. Fish Hatchery Managers prepare reports required by state and federal laws. They complete budget reports and records on money taken in, costs, and money spent.
