  • That was a great 20/20 show. Stossel is the man!

  • Ummm, not so much. He ignores the reality of today's healthcare issues. He says the cost is going down. WTF??? Has he priced private health insurance lately? If you don't have insurance through your employer, 90% of the population couldn't afford to pay for it. He's a putz.

  • John Stossel says the cost is going down for things that are NOT covered by insurance...like lasik eye surgery.

His show concludes that we should not have a government run insurance (like Universal Health Care) or one run by insurance companies.

It should be the patients who decide what they're going to pay for which is what causes the prices to go down.

  • You're completely ignoring the millions of people that don't have health insurance coverage. They can't afford to pay ANYHTING. Lasik eye surgery??? Jeebus! I just want to know how people with no coverage are going to pay for diabetic medicine and supplies. Test strips alone are $50 to $60 dollars. And that's for 50.

  • So why don't they save for it? You know, when I see the subprime loan crisis occur, I can see how irresponsible people handle their money. I guess that's why they can't afford health insurance.

  • Test Strips - 60 for 50. Testing is required 4x or more per day. So for $60.00, you get 12 days worth of strips. That averages out to $120.00 a month for strips alone. Then there is medicine. The average diabetic is on 3 medications that cost (without insurance) $200.00 to $300.00 dollars each. $250.00 (avg cost) x 3 = $750.00 per month for medicine. That's $1000.00 per month for supplies and medicine. Are you an idiot by choice or is it genetic?

  • Markets are not open right now in healthcare! Nearly 50% of our healthcare is controlled by the government. You call that open???? You are insane.

  • Stossel is completely wrong and his stats are completely erroneous by way of Dr. Gratzers statements. Gratzer is a disgraced Dr. held to account infront of congress. Stossel was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but don't worry, everyone will be ok. That's what you call a hypocrite.

  • Our government pays for over half of all healthcare spending in this country... It's called a subsidy, and 100% of the time, it always results in rising prices...

When demand doesn't fall, price doesn't fall, and subsidies like Medicare keep demand from going down; the price only rises and never goes down... That is why healthcare costs have risen every single year since 1965 when Medicare was passed...

Great Britain and Canada both have national systems, and their costs rise every year too...

  • tirmen8er, you are absolutely right. Thank you for speaking the truth.

  • You say no one has the RIGHT to healthcare? Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Maybe one day, one of your Grandchildren will be out of a job through no fault of their own. By what you say, your Grandchild should be turned away from the emergency room after a car accident because they are a bum and are jobless. Is that what you want? The PHI industry does not in anyway represent what a "free market" capitalistic industry does. That is why the government needs to step in!

  • You should want your grandchild to know what a health health insurance company is and what capitalism is. Also how government can hurt it. It's when there is competition that prices go down. I admit that the pitch for Socialism SOUNDS good. I mean it's to better society right??? No one has the RIGHT to health care. That's extortion not capitalism. Capitalism has not failed!!! We have failed to be Capitalists!!! We need to restore our republic and face the inconvenient truth that's before us!!!

  • You are kidding right? Are you so high that you think that health insurance companies will stop competing to raise prices if left to their own future? They should have taken "Hillary Care" a little more serious. Instead they just got cocky. I just hope that when my 4 year old Grandson turns 18, he won't know what a health insurance company is. GOP = Greed Over People. And they claim to followers of God! Total hypocrits!

  • rare cases? I would rather have a cheaper private system where there's more innovation and churches and charities to take care of everyone else... lower taxes to boost donations (econ 101)... if theres enough liberals that care they can donate to local non-profits. I would rather be able to fight for my family under fair conditions of economic competition than a rare case where a person picks my name out of a box. Thats not freedom. Government is not the answer. sOcialism is UN-AMERICAN.

  • what i like about Stossel is that he articulates his point so well as opposed to the Republicans in Congress who exaggerate the effects of a government run system by saying "the government will give you no choices and will tell you how you will be treated by your doctor." Stossel just says that government will "limit" your choices. and he also acknowledges that most Canadians are satisfied with their healthcare.

  • I am Canadian and I love our healthcare. I guarantee almost everyone from canada watches people like stossel create this random bullshit about rare cases and thinks it is retarded that people even believe him. Whenever I need a doctor I have one available. Emergencies are treated immediately. Only the really wealthy people of america get healthcare better then every single person in canada
