Oops he goofed on the story's end. "She died suddenly, and alone, on 13 December 1955 in an apartment in South Richmond Street. Her body was removed to St Kevin’s Church, Harrington Street and among the attendees at her funeral was President Seán T. O'Kelly. She was buried with full military honours close to the republican plot in Glasnevin Cemetery." It's quite remarkable how this song just instantly became one of my favourites...
-
no body can sing this like jim..the feeling he puts into it and the story at the beginning...people talk of the dubliners and ronnie and the lads...mc cann is often forgotten about.

I have heard this song in the past but did not realise its significance until four weeks ago when I stood on "death row" in Kilhainham Gaol and the guide told me the story of the last minute (and so poignant) marriage of Grace and her husband. A great version by Jim McCann!
