Shawn Phillips performs The Ballad of Casey Deiss

on July 29th, 2010 we all had the extreme pleasure of hearing and seeing Shawn perform many of his older songs live, some of which he has not performed in over 35 years. This is his extended version of his hit song "The Ballad of Casey Deiss" from his 1970 album Second Contribution

Casey was a close friend of Shawn's and he was struck by lightning while walking through the woods with his axe. At the time, Casey's wife, Diana, was still pregnant with their third child. Shawn said that many years later he got in touch with the youngest daughter.

Absolutely awesome music - I saw him in concert last night and I was spellbound by his music. He is an artist of the first degree. And he seems to have perfect pitch.
