Yes that hole is to pull the shaft that holds the D18 transfer case shift levers.

LOL!! Bullet hole?! Seriously?! In that case, the same GI shot my floor because I have the same hole in the exact location. Nice collection, but please don't make up stories.

Someone's punched the same 'bullet hole' in my jeep to allow them to withdraw the shaft which goes through the low range/ front wheel drive shift levers through the floor pan, when taking out the transmission. It can't be dropped unless the levers are removed.

a soft skin vehicle like a jeep would be screwed after 6 months in salt water.
and who shot the hole in the floor? some dumb G.I with his rifle resting on his boot.
